Shah Alam, 3 February 2025 - For the first time, Yayasan Hasanah and CARSOME Academy have partnered to provide scholarships to 25 students from B40 communities under the EmpowerYouth+ initiative by CARSOME Academy. Aimed at uplifting the underserved youth in rural Malaysia, this collaboration provides these underserved youths with access to CARSOME Academy’s industry-aligned automotive TVET programs, designed to create sustainable livelihoods and bridge critical skills gaps in the automotive workforce. The EmpowerYouth+ initiative is supported by Yayasan Hasanah and the Ministry of Finance (MoF) under the Hasanah Special Grant (HSG).

The EmpowerYouth+ initiative seeks to bring positive change to underserved communities by equipping young individuals with not only technical automotive skills but also leadership development and livelihood support. Upon recruitment, the participants will receive a one-off relocation allowance to the CARSOME Academy in Petaling Jaya as well as a monthly stipend that covers living expenses, accommodation, and travel. CARSOME Academy will also be offering over 30% discounts on the scholarship fee.

This collaboration also aims to foster the growth of skilled technicians while addressing the over-reliance on foreign labor. These efforts directly align with Malaysia’s growing automotive sector, which was projected to reach a market value of US$8.32 billion in 2024.

Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki, Trustee and Managing Director of Yayasan Hasanah, remarked:

“At Yayasan Hasanah, we aim to go beyond just providing equitable access to education; but also equipping our youth with future-ready skills through quality TVET training that leads to sustainable careers. This partnership with CARSOME Academy is an investment in their potential, preparing them with industry-relevant automotive skills, hands-on training in CARSOME workshops, and the confidence to build livelihoods. Beyond themselves, through initiatives like the EmpowerYouth+ programme, these individuals are not only securing economic opportunities but also contributing to advancing Malaysia in the automotive sector, while uplifting their families and communities."

Teoh Jiun Ee, Co-Founder and CEO of CARSOME Academy, shared:

"Partnering with Yayasan Hasanah on this initiative is an important step towards our shared goal of uplifting underserved communities. By providing young people with both the technical skills and the leadership qualities needed for success, we are not only opening doors for them in the automotive industry, we are also helping them shape a brighter future for themselves and their families. The mechanics of the grant is also designed to ensure both students and their families need not worry about the cost of relocating to urban areas to study and find work opportunities that will improve their economic opportunities."

Successful applicants of the EmpowerYouth+ and Yayasan Hasanah Grant will undergo comprehensive TVET training that incorporates both practical and classroom learning, with 70% focus on practical, a common practice for all students at CARSOME Academy including past students as seen here.

The collaboration is part of Yayasan Hasanah’s commitment to championing inclusive and sustainable development across Malaysia. By partnering with CARSOME Academy, the grant will ensure that young individuals, particularly from rural B40 communities, receive the technical, personal, and professional support they need to succeed in a competitive job market. The program will run for 10 months, with a focus on bridging the skill gaps in the automotive sector while providing holistic personal development through additional modules such as resume building, interview skills, IT proficiency, and leadership training.
