CARSOME Joins Hands with Rimba Ilmu for a Day of Giving Back to Nature

Kuala Lumpur, 7 June 2024 – CARSOME recently partnered with Rimba Ilmu Botanic Garden at the University of Malaya (UM) in a community-driven effort to support environmental sustainability.

After a storm on 25 May 25, 2024, devastated the Rimba Ilmu UM Conservatory forest and led to the loss of numerous trees, CARSOME stepped in to support recovery efforts through a hands-on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at restoring the damaged ecosystem.

The event began with a welcome address by Dr. Yong Kien-Thai, Program Coordinator from the Institute of Biological Sciences at UM, who shared insights into the history of Rimba Ilmu and the ongoing research initiatives, reflecting his team’s unwavering dedication to restoring the forest. Volunteers from CARSOME’s offices in Klang Valley engaged in a lively gotong-royong (communal work) session, clearing debris, planting saplings, and applying fertilizer. CARSOME donated essential gardening tools and 1000kg of fertilizer to facilitate the restoration activities. The day’s events fostered teamwork and provided hands-on experience to CARSOMERs while promoting sustainable practices within the organization.

This initiative, made possible through the dedication of the Rimba Ilmu team and the support of volunteers, underscores the value of collaborations in preserving our natural heritage. Moving forward, CARSOME aims to build on this partnership to support future community-driven environmental projects that benefit both society and nature.
